Apartment Dwellers, Here Are Some Smart Storage Solutions for Your Bike!

As much as you love to, you simply cannot ride your bike forever. At the end of the day, you’ll need to find a place to put it to rest for the night. If you live in an apartment, this could prove to be a huge problem. Most modern buildings often don’t include garages for the sake of efficient use of space, and you can’t even think of leaving your trusted companion out in the open. So, what options does that leave you? Well, none other than to bring your bike indoors.

Although bikes don’t cause problems in traffic, they do tend to interfere with the movement in the home. In a tiny space where you struggle to fit a coat hanger, a bicycle can seem like the last thing you need. Fortunately, there are many genius ways you can create storage for bikes in an apartment without compromising your precious free space. Like for instance, the following.

Wall Racks

When floor space is scarce, mounting your bike on the wall is the simplest and smartest solution. The way you can do so is by permanently fixing a rack to your wall. A single wall rack can hold only one bike, so if you own several of them you should consider getting more wall racks or go for a different solution. In any case, be careful, the rack should be strong enough to fully support the weight of your bike. Wall racks are also a great aesthetic solution because they manage to turn something as boring as storage for bikes into a unique wall display.

Wheel Hooks

Besides hanging the bike by its frame, you can also try hanging it by one of its wheels with a wheel hook. Like wall racks, wheel hooks are also mounted on the wall, with the only difference being that they support the bike by holding onto one wheel while the other rests on the wall. The only downside to this is that the bike can seem to be sticking out into the room, however, this problem can be solved if you place it next to a corner or mount it on a door. There are also ceiling mounted wheel hooks but they are mostly found in bike shops where the ceilings are high enough to allow bikes to hang down from them.

Ceiling Racks

Finally, if you have the advantage to be living in an apartment with high ceilings, you might find ceiling racks incredibly useful. Also referred to as bicycle pulleys or bicycle lifts, ceiling racks are an excellent option if you want to keep your bike out of eye level. Plus, they tend to look great in modern loft-style apartments and industrial inspired interiors. The only problem might be that they can be complicated to install, but once it’s done, the easy pulley system allows you to get your bike up in the air in no time.
